Aaliyah Style A Look Into The Past

Today marks six years since Aaliyah’s death on the 25th of August in 2001 and being an enormous fan, I thought it would be appropriate to look back at her style and reflect upon her life and impact on the music industry.

Aaliyah was introduced to audiences by R&B singer R. Kelly and released her first album; Age Ain't Nothin' But A Number (1994) - when she was 14. She had a certain mystique and style that was her own. During the mid-1990s she released the album One in a Million in 1996, from the songwriting - production team of Missy Elliott & Timbaland... both superstars in their own right...... Aaliyah’s fame escalated.

By the end of the decade she was working in the movies as an actress and composer. She co-starred with Jet Li in Romeo Must Die (2000), and her song from the movie, "Try Again," was a hit single.

Seven years after her debut, Aaliyah assembled a third studio album that was astonishingly mature... and it was clear that she was definitely on the verge of superstardom...

Given her acting talent ...she starred in: Queen of the Damned in 2001 and had agreed to do the sequel to the 1999 Keanu Reeves film The Matrix prior to her death.

Aaliyah’s dancing and videos were so amazing and righfully so... with awards such as "The Top 40 Woman of the Video Era" in VH1's The Greatest and making the list of the 100 Sexiest Artists, along with BET's "Top 25 Dancers of All Time" and ranked at #4 on BET's "Top 25 Sexiest Women of all Time".

Her sex appeal was of a different nature than what we see a lot of now.....as far as video’s go....she was classy and followed restraint. I never tired of her as an artist ....because she always would give ground for a few years and come back with a stronger creative ingenuity than ever before…

If you never followed Aaliyah from day one.....her difference was noted as “rare”– as she termed herself as having a street mentality with a jazz personality... and everyone that came to know her, recognized that she was a unique individual who gave all of herself in whatever she did...and it was genuine.... whether it was charity work, singing, acting, time with friends, signing autographs; Aaliyah lived her life with a smile on her face and love in her soul. I bonded with her personality because she was real and... A big kid at heart who liked to have fun. Check out the video below from ifilm.

She will continue to have an impact on the world; as her admirers and fans visit Aaliyah's Weeping Willow Tree in Central Park, honoring her memory. An open invite has been issued via her website to share in her legacy through The Aaliyah Memorial Fund. The money donated goes to charities Aaliyah supported. Aaliyah's Cancer Awareness Angels participate in a Revlon Run Walk in which Aaliyah herself once participated.

With Sincerest Gratitude today... we honor Aaliyah.
