Victoria Williams' Sweet Relief organization is working on a new project, an album tribute to funk and rock legend Sly Stone. The project is only in the concept stage, but Sweet Relief's Bob Bortnick told the Los Angeles Times that he felt the influences of Sly and the Family Stone, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, would be such that assembling an impressive — and commercially potent — roster of artists to participate in the project should be relatively easily accomplished. Sweet Relief, founded in 1993, strives to raise funds to give financial aid to musicians in need of medical care. Earlier projects have been tributes to songwriters Vic Chesnutt and Williams.
